Using my prototypes, I began experimenting with different paints, colours and oils for finishes. I first used gauche paints (as I had no acrylic) however these were quite streaky and darkened the wood grain a lot. While I like the grain being somewhat visible, I think the black lines were a bit too much. After putting on a couple of coats of the paint it darkened into a more matte colour but I still wasn't sure.
I then went and got some house paint and this worked a lot better. It was easier to apply and dried a lot less streaky. I did also read online that a mixture of olive oil and white vinegar makes for a good polish, however upon trying this I didn't really notice a difference and further research warned of the olive oil going mouldy. As I had already tackled mould on my previous project, I knew this was definitely not a road I wanted to go down again.
For my final piece I think I'm going to use the yellow for the body and the darker colours like the blue and the red for the details as the yellow isn't as strong as the others.
