Day 6: Fjerk

In this session, we got into groups and used one of our products as inspiration for a short film. As at this point in the making process, my fork looked fairly weapon-like, we decided to run with its sinister appearance as the atmosphere for our video. Fittingly, our university building has a morgue with plain walls and no lights making it perfect for this shoot.

While developing the context for my product, I thought more about depth and how much of a strange concept it is to me having reduced depth perception. I then imagined a race of entirely two dimensional beings also trying to understand and create depth by analysing shadows of objects around them. This was the inspiration behind the shadows in the video and my photoshoot.

The name Fjerk came from a comment about Ikea furniture names which we found quite amusing in the moment so we kept it. While I'm sure it could be analysed to link to my concept, I am happy to just let it be.

Below is the further exploration I did into shadows through photography exploring the shapes normal cutlery makes. I then created some concept illustrations of my 2D figures finding the shadow cutlery.
