Day 2: Dragonfly Cutlery

Creating my Initial Ideas

In order to tackle this, I first thought of what was surreal to me. I have had double vision probably for my entire life, however, I was not informed that this was abnormal until I was about 10. At this time, they also told me that my depth perception was not very strong. The idea that the world I can see is not the fully 3D world that other people can see is very surreal to me. My first sketches were inspired by the idea that there is a hidden depth within objects. I wanted to design some cutlery that, when photographed from one angle, would look normal, however, once rotated it would be peculiarly long. Practically, I had an idea of someone sitting at the end of a very long table and eating from multiple dishes with one utensil.

Visually, I thought about creating a dragonfly design on my cutlery, inspired by the above quote from my grandad, however, I believe it may distract from the depth element. As a result, I want to try and experiment with tempering the metal instead to mimic the holographic skin of a dragonfly. This way the link will still be there for me but won't be too distracting for the user.
